Mind, Body & Soul

With the New Year, Downtown has all the right places to get your mind, body and soul ready for your resolutions. Start weaning your body off the holiday turkey with healthy breakfast wraps and sandwiches from Spotters on the way to the gym. Their lean meat and multiple combinations are friendly for even the pickiest of eaters.

Even if you miss breakfast, Anytime Fitness will still be waiting for you with open doors. The gym is open 24 hours a day, so there is no excuse for skipping out on your resolutions. Downtown Yoga is the place to hit to renew not only your body, but your mind. Take an hour for yourself to zone out and be Zen. They offer different levels and styles like Basic Flow and Smart Flow, as well as Pilates, to relax your mind and focus on your body.

Another way to relax your mind is a trip to Levitate Float Center. Sensory deprivation and weightlessness (and 800 pounds of Epsom salt) are the key ingredients to gaining a clear mind and revival. Flotation therapy is all the rave and a perfect way to get your mind right for the new year.

As far as a New Year diet, you don’t have to stop frequenting you favorite Hammond restaurants. Many favorites have lean and fit options, and La Carreta even has an Eat Fit menu. Avocado salad, shrimp or mahi ceviche or any Monterey dinner can help balance out those margaritas.

Try a spot like Smoothies-N-Things near campus, who have light breakfast and lunch, as well as delicious smoothies. Getting ready for the new year is a challenge, but Downtown Hammond makes it easier. There are plenty of options for getting your mind, body and soul healthy and ready to take on 2018.
